At 3.5 mm each stone is large enough to be read on its own rather than as one continuous glitter, while the line still sits close to the neck.
Each stone sits in its own four prong setting, so light passes through the line rather than reflecting off a solid band, and the chain stays supple enough to lie flat against the skin.
Most tennis chains close with a tongue and box clasp, which has to be found and pressed by feel behind the neck, and it is the part most likely to fail. This chain uses a lobster clasp. It opens and closes with one hand, it will not release under load, and you can put the chain on and take it off yourself in seconds.
